A program that offers training to prepare interfaith and community mentors to work with persons preparing for release from the prison system, as well as children of offenders and their families with special emphasis on populations of color. In many cases, during incarceration, family ties are severed; significant others abandon relationships which were intact prior to the confinement of their partner; offspring are denied access to newly released parents by a custodial parent or guardian; and the general day-to-day stigma of having been convicted and incarcerated creates enormous barriers. All of these challenges warrant a need for someone to encourage and provide additional motivation. Therefore, the Re-entry Mentoring Training Project trains mentors to assist ex-offenders with the challenges of re-entry and reconnection with their family. The program is an affiliate of the “To Serve The Present Age: Re-entry, Volunteerism and Mentorship”. Contact us for more information about the Re-entry Mentor Training Project. |
